Just because the temperatures are dropping does not mean you cannot head out for a jog
Warm summer days are starting to feel like a distant memory.
Days are getting shorter and Christmas chocolates are beginning to appear in supermarket aisles.
For all the runners out there, you may find the hot months a great time to strap on your running shoes and head out for a jog as you try to make the most of the nice weather.
However, moving into the later months of the year, this motivation can sometimes be trickier to find.
Tackling cold weather and having fewer hours of daylight to run in can be sad, however the autumn and winter seasons are still brilliant times of the year to go out for a run.
Here are a few tips to keep you running - even when it is a tad chilly outside.
Do your warming up indoors
This may seem like an obvious solution, but when you are in the mindset of heading out for a run, you may completely forget to do a bit of a warm up.
When it is warm outside, this is absolutely fine as you can gradually warm up at the start of the run, however in the colder months you will benefit greatly from completely warming up before you even leave the front door.
Do a few drills with all of your layers on, then as soon as you leave the home, start your full run without allowing your body to cool down.
Try to run around daylight
Plan and time your runs so you can get at least a little bit of sunlight.
Heading out late at night will be the time of the day when you are the most drained, so will not be able to give it your all.
Instead, especially for those who work from home, consider taking a bit of time out of your lunch hour for a midday run.
Be weary of the conditions
Wet and cold weather can mean ice.
Black ice particularly can be hazardous as you do not realise the surface is slippy until you have slipped.
If it is a particular icy morning, consider putting your run off until it has warmed up slightly.
